12 days of Christmas gifts, each day growing in the size and number of gifts. It has become our nature to focus on the gifts in each of these verses, or to think we could never be as generous as this giver, rationalizing that all these gifts are excessive. Perhaps we need to open ourselves more to accepting our worthiness as a recipient.

In the entire 12 days, was a gift ever offered to 'my true love'? No, there isn't. A gift is given without any expectation of receiving something in return. God has provided us with all good things and continues to heap his blessings on us.

The little drummer boy had a different perspective - he, too, wanted to be able to bring a gift. He responded, not out of obligation, but in true love, offering something of himself to this newborn king.
