Just over a year ago, Sun announced it was buying MySQL, Now, Oracle and Sun have announced an agreement where Oracle will acquire Sun.
Sun Solaris is the primary platform for Oracle and this deal will enable Oracle to optimize the Solaris operating system and database engines for peak performance in high-end applications. The transaction is valued at $5-7 billion.
It will be some time before the effects of this deal are truly known
Sun Microsystems, the world’s biggest contributor to Open Source (Open Office, Java -now under GPL, GlassFish and NetBeans), has recently announced plans to acquire MySQL AB, the sole owner of the MySQL server source code, the MySQL trademark and the mysql.com domain worldwide.
